I want to share with you a very special story about a Bichon Frise, Bailey. Bailey injured his back while playing with his older and much bigger brother, a Labrador. The injury caused Bailey to be totally paralyzed from the waist down. In addition to being paralyzed he had no control of his urination or bowels.
His Veterinarian gave his family three industry standard options: (1) euthanize, (2) $10,000 worth of spine surgery, or (3) try an intense two-day steroid treatment. His family decided to try the steroids but after two days of treatment there was unfortunately no change. Their vet informed his family that there was no hope of Bailey ever walking again and suggested that they purchase a wheelchair and let nature take its course. Bailey’s family refused to give up on him and out of curiosity asked their chiropractor if an adjustment could help Bailey’s injury. The chiropractor referred them to me.
Within a week after his first adjustment, Bailey regained some feeling and tried to stand. Two months later, BAILEY WAS WALKING! His back legs were still weak from inactivity, but they were getting stronger every day. He had also regained COMPLETE CONTROL of his urination and bowels. While Bailey’s recovery is not typical, it proves that chiropractic can be very powerful and should always be considered as a possible treatment. Ultimately my goal is to prevent debilitating injuries like the one that paralyzed Bailey. This is especially important in certain breeds that tend to have spine injuries. If your dog has ever had a back injury or is a breed that is susceptible, you may consider having your dog’s spine checked. It can ultimately save their life.
I hope this story inspires you. It certainly has inspired me to spread the word about chiropractic! Success stories like Bailey’s are what motivate me to be in this glorious profession.
