Pumpkin CinnaBone

It’s getting to be that time of year again when there is the slightest chill in the air. And that means autumn flavors like acorn squash, sweet potato, and PUMPKIN!! This is one of our seasonal treats at See Spot Eat. Definitely more of a treat than a trick!

Pumpkin CinnaBone

Ingredients

2 3/4 c Whole wheat flour
1/4 c Wheat germ
1/4 cup Oats
2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 c water
1 Eggs
1/4 cup Pumpkin
1/3 cup Canola oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all dry ingredients together. Combine wet ingredients together. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix with dough hook of mixer or mix with mixer until just moistened.

Knead dough for 5 minutes – folding in small amounts of whole wheat flour as necessary. Roll dough out to 1/2 inch. Cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake cookies for 20 minutes. Flip cookies over and bake 15 more minutes. Turn off oven and let cookies stay in oven for several hours or overnight.

Store in an airtight container. Keeping treats refrigerated for longer life. Treats should keep well for 2-3 weeks.

Doggie Paddle, Dogs on Board and Safe Pets

This week I have a little bit of this and a little bit of that to share:

And you thought the pool was closed for the year…  think again!

This Sunday, come visit us at Pooch Plunge at Nashville Shores! I love the tag-line for this event “Come belly-flop and doggie-paddle together with your dog.” Too cute. This is a great community, family, and dog event to benefit NPT – Nashville Public Television. All dogs are welcome to come swim, enjoy the entertainment, and see some incredible flyball demonstrations! The celebration takes place from 1pm-5pm and $20 will get you + 3 in the gate (any variation of 4 including dogs.) Please stop by our booth to say hello – we love seeing friends!

Do not go fetch – go straight to the kennel!

How about a night in with the friends, family, and four-legged (or three-legged!) kiddos? Try Dog-opoly! You can only buy Boardwalk and get sent to jail so many times before you need a little something new. Instead of real estate, Dog-opoly allows you to buy different dog breeds and increase your rent by purchasing Toys and eventually upgrading to Big Bones. We always encourage dog adoption over shopping from breeders, but this is a cute and fun twist on a classic game, so enjoy!

ADS Security loves protecting our pets!

ADS Security has launched a great program called ADS PAWS (Pet Alert and Watch Systems) to help keep pets safe. This service includes fire and carbon monoxide protection, rescue decals for your home, pet safety profiles, and even pet cams. Rescue decals are available to the community for free and can be placed on your home to alert emergency workers of your animals inside your house in case of fire or other disaster. To request your free decal go to adspaws.com or stop by Nashville Humane Association.

Cassie is the studio manager for Adrian Hitt Photography. She keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes and frequents the blog often with her tips on what’s going on in the dog world. In addition to her work here, Cassie freelances in the local music scene, volunteers with animal rescues and enjoys being outside with her pups. She lives in Nashville and is the proud parent of Jeffery, Ittey and Banjo – two rescue dogs and one awesome orange cat!

Last minutes with Oden the Dog

Sure, I’m stuffed into a dog’s body, but that’s just the shell. It’s what’s inside that’s important. The soul. And my soul is very human.

This quote is from Enzo, the philosophical dog who believes he is destined to be human in his next life. He is also the storyteller of the great novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain. After the book was highly recommended by a couple of friends, I cozied up at a coffee shop this past weekend and read the novel straight through. I couldn’t stop. I found so much familiarity in Enzo and his viewpoint quite intriguing and his heart so very human – but pure. The story begins on the eve of Enzo’s last day of life and recounts his entire days with his family. A truly great story and an even greater tool in letting go of our pups who mean so incredibly much to us. I couldn’t recommend this book more.

I wanted to share about Enzo because of the video below. I was sent this video today and it’s such a touching story that I couldn’t not share it with fellow animal lovers. This brief documentary shares the last minutes of Oden the dog‘s life. I will warn you – it is very emotional. It does, however, celebrate the deep bond we’re capable of having with dogs (and other animals alike) and how pure that connection is. Elizabeth Gilbert wrote in Eat Pray LoveIn a world of disorder and disaster and fraud, sometimes only beauty can be trusted. The relationship showed in this video between the man and his dog, is simply that – beautiful. Oden, rest in peace sweet boy.

I watched about half and had to stop. We had to put my 14 year old sheltie to sleep a few years ago and it was the hardest thing ever. But my request was that I got to be there and I would be the last thing he saw. I was glad I did it that way. Me and him and a very special bond and he was with me all the time. Thanks for posting it though. The bond that we have with dogs is almost unexplainable until you see something like that!

Itching, scratching, licking, chewing – Is your dog struggling with allergies?

As you may know, I am a Doctor of Chiropractic and I treat humans and pets. In my human practice, I have had many patients approach me with their allergy concerns. Being in Nashville, allergies are a huge problem! It was very important to me to find a safe and effective solution for allergies that did not involve medicine or injections because of negative side effects. During my research for an alternative, I was led to an amazing product called BioEssence. BioEssence is a blend of Chinese herbs created by Je Soon Park, an Osteopathic Medical Doctor and licensed Acupuncturist. Dr. Park created BioEssence for relief and elimination of allergies, asthma, eczema, and psoriasis. Armed with this new information, I decided to give BioEssence a try for my own allergies before suggesting it to my patients. Unfortunately, I am allergic to dogs and cats. (Which, as you can imagine, makes being an animal chiropractor a bit difficult at times!) Often I would develop hives, runny nose, watery eyes, and I would have sneezing fits. Needless to say, it was difficult to get through appointments with my animal clients.

After one day of taking BioEssence I was amazed at the results. I immediately had relief from my allergies with absolutely no side effects. I began suggesting BioEssence to my human patients and they too had similar results. With such great results in humans, I began to wonder if BioEssence would be safe for dogs. Because so many of my animal clients also suffered from allergies, I approached the vet I work with at Richland Animal Clinic, Dr. Terry Brockman. I told her about the results I had in humans and asked for her help in determining if the ingredients were safe for dogs. After she determined the ingredients were in fact safe, she did a trial of BioEssence on one of her toughest allergy cases. This pooch was allergic to everything. Grass, pollen, dust, mold, beef, chicken, turkey, grains, potatoes – you name it, she was allergic to it! We gave it a week and it WORKED! Her once itchy, red, inflamed skin was soothed. She was not driving her pet parent crazy with all the scratching, licking and chewing of her belly and feet. Would you know, she even snuck in some of her sister’s kibble that had previously sent her in to a full on allergic reaction? This pup had absolutely no allergic reaction. Over time, her fur has grown in thick and luxurious and she looks like a completely new dog!

We have seen similar results time and time again. I wanted to share this victory with you and let you know there are alternatives out there when it comes to managing your pet’s allergies. If you are interested in BioEssence for your pet’s allergies, please make an appointment at Richland Animal Clinic. If you are interested in BioEssence for yourself, make an appointment with me at Inman Chiropractic.

Yours in Health,

Dr. Kathleen Inman, D.C., IVCA

Her dog Sophie is the silly, fluffy, red love of her life.

Chinese Crested Dog

Puffer is a Chinese Crested dog and how adorable is he? Let me tell you, he is a small dog stuck in a big dog’s body! So full of energy and antics. We had such a great photo shoot together. His pet parents are enamored with him and are some of the sweetest people you’ll meet. This was a day all about their puppy and I’m so glad I was there to capture him. Enjoy these! And don’t forget about Dog Days Festival tomorrow – be sure to drop by and say hi!
