Wednesday Night Wags is back with a twist

Happy Tales Humane’s long treasured annual event, Wednesday Night Wags is back!

In my opinion, live music is the absolute best way to bring folks together for a great cause. This is exactly what Happy Tales Humane achieves with their Wags benefit concert series. Shows will take place every Wednesday night in March at 7:30pm at The Basement in Nashville. Each week has a great lineup of talent musicians and animal lovers from right here in our own community. Tickets are $10 and can be purchase online or over the phone. Weekly lineups and ticket info can be found here.

Cassie is the studio manager for Adrian Hitt Photography. She keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes and frequents the blog often with her tips on what’s going on in the dog world. In addition to her work here, Cassie freelances in the local music scene, volunteers with animal rescues and enjoys being outside with her pups. She lives in Nashville and is the proud parent of Jeffery, Ittey and Banjo – two rescue dogs and one awesome orange cat!

White Boxer and Shih Tzu – Pet photographer

Happy Friday! Gracie is a Shih Tzu and Boscoe is a white Boxer. Gracie is the queen of the house and Bosco is 110% dog. They make for an interesting pair! It was such a lovely day winter day for their session (before the storms rolled in) and I had such a great time observing and photographing their diverse personalities. Enjoy!

Spread the word to benefit pets in Nashville

It is heartwarming to see great organizations in our community join forces to make major change for the animals here in Middle Tennessee.

This Saturday, February 26th, Nashville Paw Magazine is hosting Free Spay Day at The Factory at Franklin. Free spay and neuter surgeries aboard New Leash On Life’s Spay Station will be available to those who demonstrate financial need. Pet owners who take part in one of the programs listed here are eligible for an surgery for their pet as space allows. Surgeries are by appointment and will take place from 8am -3pm. To schedule an appointment through the Spay Station, please call (615) 453-2349. The Spay Station will be located outside of Happy Tales Humane’s shelter – allowing for a great opportunity for you to tour the facility and learn more about Happy Tales’ rescue efforts.

Do you know someone living in East Nashville’s 37207 zip code? A one-of-a-kind program has been developed through the collaborative efforts of UPAW, Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC), Metro Health Department, and Nashville Humane Association. Beginning in March and continuing for the next year, residents of 37207 will have access to free spay and neuter surgeries, rabies shots, basic vaccinations, and additional services for their pets. Yes – all for FREE to residents of this zip code with proof of residency. 37207 had the highest number of complaints to MACC in 2010 and now our community is stepping up to make positive change. In the coming months, this program will be expanding to assist 37013 and we can hope that with community support we can continue adding zip codes to the list. Please share this message with the community or forward UPAW’s recent newsletter with details.

Cheers to healthy pets and the end of pet overpopulation!

Andrea Arden of Animal Haven

During my travels to New York this past October, I was lucky enough to spend some time with animal trainer and rescuer, Andrea Arden, at Animal Haven in Manhattan. Animal Haven is a nonprofit shelter for abandoned dogs and cats in the Tri-State area of New York. They do a great work and would love your support if you’re in the area. Andrea is an accomplished author of 5 books about dog training and behavior; an animal behavior columnist and contributing writer on numerous publications. She also appears regularly on several Animal Planet shows; and frequents The Today Show, 20/20, PBS programs and others with her animal training advice. Impressive enough?! She is an expert in her field and has a huge heart which she pours into the wonderful dogs and cats waiting to be adopted at Animal Haven Shelter. Andrea works alongside Animal Haven as a board member and also as a trainer to help improve the likelihood of adoption and reduce the time in which the many dogs and cats in their temporary care will be adopted.

Here she is with a couple of pups from Animal Haven awaiting their homes.

So cute!

Love from a Dog

All right, so I don’t know how to bury my garden messes. And I bark at everything. And I’m not very good at washing myself. And I roll in doubtful substances. And I smell a bit iffy in warm weather. But I love you, love you, love you, and I will go on loving you till the day I die…
