Being a dog photographer has brought me immense joy, laughter and peace. I feel so fortunate to not only do something I love, but to meet numerous dogs who all touch me in different ways. And of course, knowing you all, their caregivers. Getting phone calls to let me know that a dog has passed, is the hardest part and one I wish I could do without. I know how much my Benny means to me, and so my heart breaks to think what you all are going through during such a loss. Such a vast emptiness. Words can’t really say how much I am honored to get to know your pups while they’re here. So thank you.
Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm,
and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.
VICKI HARRISON
Today, we remember a wonderful Australian Shepherd, Shelby. (More of her dog photos.) Her short eight years were filled with lots of love, playtime and eating cicadas. 😉 (My session with her was during Nashville’s 2011 cicada invasion.) (And, don’t let her smile fool you, because she was also mischievous! During our shoot, she kept sneaking in my bag and stealing toys. I’ve never had another dog be so adamant. A funny girl.) She was diagnosed with kidney cancer earlier this year, and after surgery, proper nutrition and chemo, she could no longer fight. When I photographed her the second time, it was only weeks after having a kidney removed and she was full of life and energy. Such a trooper. Shelby is sorely missed by her family and those that knew her. Rest in peace, sweet girl.

Haha! I know Brian wishes Benny could fold the laundry for him 😉 Or even put dishes in the dishwasher.
