Tomato Art Fest and Bow Wow Brunch
Saturday is a big day for Nashville. If you haven’t heard, East Nashville will be overrun by tomatoes! Well, not exactly, but the 2009 Tomato Art Fest is chock-full of music, competitions, art activities, and eating, all in celebration of the grand tomato. The all-day event takes place in historic East Nashville’s Five Points area, and starts off at 7:30 am with the Tomato 5K. At 9:00 am there is a parade where you can dress up in your tomato costumes to march in the street to the beat of Halfbrass, a New Orleans influenced jazz, funk, rock band. The Faux Paw Fashion Show is an opportunity to dress up your pet and parade him/her around the streets. From 11:00 to 2:00 pm, the Heirloom Tomato Tasting will take place at the Turnip Truck and at 3:00 pm there is the Biggest/Littlest/Ugliest Tomato Contest at Rumours East.As the slogan says, it will be “DANG HUGE” and there are many, many more events. Check out the website or grab a copy of this week’s Nashville Scene–there is a guide with a map of the vendor locations and the music and activities schedule. Also, if you can’t make it on Saturday, there are some events on Thursday and Friday that might peak your interest: Wine Tasting/Tomato Pairing at Rumours East ($20), a Phot-O-Mato Exhibit Opening at Exchange Gallery, and Tomato Wine Dinner at Marche ($40), Children’s Art Competition at Y-CAP Building, Tomato Art Preview Party at Art & Invention Gallery ($25), and the Bloody Mary Competition Preliminaries at 3 Crow Bar. Have a blast and eat a tomato or two!
In another part of Nashville, there will be a energetic fashion show featuring adorable adoptable dogs from the Nashville Humane Association. The Bow Wow Brunch is a wonderful opportunity for you to enjoy a delicious brunch, view training demonstrations, and talk with a variety of pet vendors, while your dog samples special treats and meets other pups. Tickets are $35 and all proceeds go to The Nashville Humane Association. The brunch is held from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Sheraton Music City, after which you and your dog can head to the Tomato Art Fest!
