Since I have started working with Adrian, I have become aware of the multitude of animal rights organizations in Nashville and throughout the United States. It is always encouraging to discover yet another group of people dedicated to protecting the rights of all animals and fighting for changes in the behavior toward animals. And for me personally, animal rights issues are connected to environmental issues and protecting our earth’s biodiversity. That may seem like a stretch for some, but the underlying concept is respectful and equal treatment of all species, flora and fauna. For today’s post, I just wanted to list a few of the animal rights and environmental organizations so that if you are interested in learning more or getting involved, the information is right here! Just click on the logos.
The Humane Society of the United States (I am also a big fan of their logo). And, for those of you who are into social media, follow the Humane Society on Twitter.
Nashville Humane Association is a local rescue group that promotes adoption of homeless animals.
Nashville Paw is Middle Tennessee’s resource for the animal welfare community. Be sure to follow them on twitter too!
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has several campaigns to protect and preserve the natural environment, some of which are home to endangered animals.
The Land Trust for Tennessee’s mission is to protect Tennessee’s natural and historic landscapes and sites, which in turn maintains livable environments for our wild animals. (Disclosure: I also work part-time at The Land Trust!)
I realize there are many, many more organizations that support animal rights and the environment, so if you’d like to comment with your favorite organization, please do so!
Thanks!

Since Laura is on vacation this week, I thought I’d blog in her place! As summer is drawing to an end, it means that fall is quickly approaching. With that, our lives pick up the pace as we transition out of summer and into the busiest time of the year. So, here’s a reminder to be sure and do something for yourself! I bought myself tulips and every morning I walked into my office and spotted them, it made me smile. (Not a bad trade off!)

Ummmm if you have not thought of this already…. this would make a cool promo piece!!
GREAT quote (and photos, of course)!! Thanks for the self-care reminder.
I love the quote you used. I think I will have to record it in my journal as a reminder to myself. Thank you for sharing this as well as your lovely tulips.
Sabien. She has the cutest snort. This shot makes me think of winter. (Which I’m not ready for because I haven’t gotten a summer tan yet! 😉 ) I’ll share more from her session later this week!

this would make such a great Christmas card!
Yes, it would make a great Christmas card! I love it.
It’s quite amazing the things our dogs teach us. So surprising each and every time.
I just love this one – she’s working so hard to earn her treat!

Great quote and great photo. Looks like the dog’s had a few too many of those treats, or beers, or both!
Ohhh… I LOVE this!
this is a nice one. I likey-like it. It’s practically true. Sometimes, we probably have to be part-dog to train him properly and to understand him.
Absolutely wonderful in every way!

Hey, thanks for featuring the HSUS! I work for this organization and believe strongly in the mission. And like you, I believe that compassionate treatment of animals is connected to respect for the environment. Our logo has changed several times over the past 20 years, but I like this one the best by far.
Great photos at the top of the page. Keep up the good work!
