Record Setting Dogs!
Before I tell dive into today’s post, I want to remind everyone that the Mutt Strut and Dog Days Festival are this Saturday at Centennial Park. We hope to see y’all there!
As a child I was fascinated with the Guinness Book of World Records–oldest cake, longest nails, fastest time to run a mile, and on and on and on. I would spend hours flipping through the book, constantly in awe of these amazing, freakish, and silly “talents”. Within the last year, a new record setting phenomenon has arisen: The Universal Record Database (URDB). You may have seen the URDB on the Jimmy Fallon Show or Jay Leno Show or perhaps you heard about Drew Barrymore’s recent record for “Most People Hit With Pies in 30 Seconds While on Rollerskates”. So, what is this all about? URDB believes that every person on earth has potential to be the world’s best ‘something’ and their mission is to become the database where all such achievements will live. As creativity is encouraged, the records range from “Most Toothpicks Stuck in a Grape in 30 seconds” to “Longest Tape Measure Extension Toss” to “Most Hand-Shakes Elicited from a Dog in 30 Seconds.” Yes, our canine friends are allowed to participate in this record-setting madness. There are some examples here and if you feel inspired, you and your dog (or cat or turtle) can set a new one or try to break an old one. Just get it on videotape and submit it to the website. Then, sit back and enjoy your moment of record-setting fame!
